The overall objective of GREENCIT is to demonstrate how
environmental policy can be interpreted and implemented into
concrete citizen-oriented actions, which motivate and help
citizens to change their behavior.

Be Green Umeå has become a well-known brand for sustainability projects in Umeå. With a focus on simple messages and easy-going activities that encourage public dialogue Be Green Umeå has reached out to the public. The project has had a major impact and contributed to behavioral changes among the inhabitants of the Umeå region in how to live and travel more sustainably. The whole project is now summarized in a concise easy to read report for the public to enjoy.
In 26-28 of March 2015 the Project opened its office for the public who were treated to organic coffee in exchange for an environmental promise. With the help of borrowed furniture from Umeå municipality’s Return Store, Be Green Umeå’s office was transformed into a cafe.
During three years, 2012-2014, an activity to encourage increased sorting of hazardous waste in private households was been carried out. The purpose of the activity was to investigate how cost-effective information and service initiatives could increase the sorting of hazardous waste. Now the results are compiled in a final report.
On Saturday, March 28th at 20:30 to 21:30 Umeå municipality will be attending in the world's largest environmental manifestation Earth Hour. At that time the lights will be turned off in many places in the country for one hour to draw attention to the climate change. Join you too!
