In Europe, especially in small and midsized towns and urban
areas such as the Umeå region, we face the same problem concerning
the public transport: It does not fully support the citizens need
for fast commuting and flexibility in the same way the car does.
Most cars drive around with a lot of empty seats which could be
filled with people going to the same destination. This action will
explore the possibility of joining together the public transport
and private cars in order to broaden the range of sustainable
travel options for the citizens of Europe.
A service will be developed that support, not just planned joint
commuting and public transports, but also spontaneous joint car
rides as a fully adequate complement to existing public
Car sharing campaign at Rådhustorget
On Saturday 28th of February the project was at Rådhustorget in central Umeå to comfort as many lonely motorists as possible. Our campaign car was crying out loud on the square.
During week 8 and 9, we are trying to save as many lonely motorists as possible by showing them how easy it is to find car sharing friends through skjutsgruppen.nu/umea. The campaign reaches out widely through radio, ad shells, billboards, social media and a weeping car.
Together with the non-profit car-sharing movement Skjutsgruppen, the project has developed a web-based car-sharing service. With this carpooling service, it is possible to find and create carpool opportunities for single trips, but also options for those who commute regularly.
Carpooling in Västra Stärkesmark
During Wednesday night a positive crowd of people were at the home of a committed carpooler in Västra Stärkesmark. The group was there to learn more about the carpooling system skjutsgruppen.nu and the evening can be seen as a kick-off for carpooling in the communities around Tväråbäck.

Carpooling tool tested in Tavelsjö Bygden
On March 19, inhabitants of Tavelsjö gathered to get information about the tool for carpooling developed in collaboration with Skjutsgruppen. Interested parties in the Umeå region including the Tavelsjö district now have the chance to test the tool before it is released to everyone else in the region.

A cold winter evening people from Vännfors and surrounding villages gathered in the mission house in the village to talk about how sustainable travel can become a reality even in the countryside. The project was on hand to listen to the villagers and make suggestions on what could serve as good solutions the inhabitants.

As Örnsköldsvik now belongs the Umeå region new possibilities for cooperation open up. Early on Sustainable Travel in the Örnsköldsvik region and Be Green Umeå began working together around a shared car-pooling system.

Now that Örnsköldsvik also belongs to the Umeå region new possibilities for collaboration have opened up. The Projects Green Citizens of Europe and Sustainable Travel in the Örnsköldsvik region now plan to jointly develop a carpooling sytem.
